Lips to talk about

“If you’re sad, add more lipstick and attack" ~ Coco Chanel.
We all feel more empowered when we apply a lick of our favourite lippy. But what if the cold weather has played havoc with your coat of armour. Well I am here to solve all your lips lows and give you lucious lips all year round.

The skin on the lips is extra thin and sensitive, lips don't have any hair or sebaceous glands, which assist in keeping the skin lubricated and protected. Their only source of moisturiser is your saliva, that's why they can easily become dry and chapped.

What's more, they don't have any melanin, which is your body's natural way of protecting the skin from ultraviolet rays. That's why your lips are at a higher risk of sunburn and skin cancer. Think of your lips as a sponge, when exposed to moisture, they absorb water and plump up. When dehydrated, they dry out and shrink, often becoming chapped and sore.

As you age, your lips will begin to show fine lines and wrinkles, usually at a faster rate than the rest of your face, since the skin is so thin. Also, smoking is a major culprit of early ageing of the lips as it is a toxic pollutant, smokers are more likely to develop lines around the mouth, because of the repeated use of the perioral muscles to hold the cigarette, smoking also effects the body ability to avoid nutrients like Vitamin C, which is essential for collagen synthesis.

The negative effects of the environment frequently result in the drying, chapping, and cracking of the mouth. Improper care of lips can also lead to increased risk of inflammation, infection, and burning sensations. The good news is that once you start taking care of your lips, you can reverse the signs of ageing and trauma relatively quickly.

Also keep in mind, when choosing lipstick, choose mineral as the ingredient are chosen with the integrity of your lips in mind. Avoid long lasting formulations as they tend to be harsh and drying the lips. Also if using Environ youth essentials eye gel, be sure to apply any excess around the lip area too .
